The Scientific Review Committee (SRC) is responsible for reviewing and approving all applications to use biospecimens and/or data from the BCBN. A representative from each partnering site and partnering study will be required to sit on the SRC.
All applications for access to specimens made to the BCBN must be reviewed for scientific merit by the BC Biobank Network Scientific Review Committee (BCBN SRC). The BCBN SRC is also responsible for providing input into issues that directly and indirectly affect the type and amount of biospecimens collected by the BCBN. This committee is accountable to the BCBN Governance Committee.
Objectives
- Review and approve all research applications to access stored BCBN samples
- Assess applications according to scientific and ethical validity, merit and integrity, availability of specimens and logistical considerations.
- Improve the network’s ability to provide researchers with fast, easy access to high quality samples linked to data outcomes, facilitating the uptake of research evidence into clinical practice
- Provide scientific guidance in quality control for delivery of quality biospecimens for research.
